A Pilgrim’s Pause

At the St Barnabas men’s retreat.

On Saturday 20th September Rev’d Bosco Peters led a day retreat of 16 men from across the parish on the theme of “A Pilgrim’s Pause: Where am I? Where to? And why?” We gathered in the beautiful chapel at All Soul’s Merivale.

Through times of sharing, listening, and silence, the day started with morning prayer and ended with a poroporoaki and Eucharist.

Bosco introduced us to the spiritual exercises of St Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556), the Stages of Faith (by Fowler and others), and the writings and prayers of Thomas Merton (1915-1968) and Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916).

All who attended were deeply impacted. We valued the opportunity to “retreat” for a day amidst busyness, to share lives, stories, prayers and the breaking of bread, and to listen to God, Bosco, and one another.
