ANZAC Day 2025

In our memorial church, we remembered the fallen.

A full congregation gathered for a moving ANZAC Day service on Friday 25 April. The church was beautifully decked in flowers and memorabilia, with crosses out front, arranged by Carol Stewart. Frieda Looser shared about the history of our memorial church, including some of those involved in its building just after WW1 and those remembered around our walls. We enjoyed beautiful music from our choir and organist Denis Guyan, including the National Anthems of both Australia and New Zealand. Chengyue Huang, one of our English language students who is also part of Lifestreams congregation, played The Last Post and Reveille. Sir Peter Skelton read the poem “We shall keep the faith”. Our churchwardens Nigel Yeoh and Wendy Kington read the lessons, and the roll of honour of those from the Fendalton community who died in WW1 and WW2. Barbara Neville shared the children’s story of ‘ANZAC Ted’. We all laid our poppies and rosemary at the table in front of the altar as we remembered the fallen. Lest we forget.

Afterwards we gathered in the Fendall Hall for fellowship over morning tea, provided by Corinne Haines, and had a chance to look at some of the memorabilia brought by parishioners and to share family stories.
